Prof. Vassilios Zacharopoulos

Prof. Vassilios Zacharopoulos received his BSc in Physics from the University of Patras in 1973 and his PhD in Telecommunications from the University of Athens in 1986. From 1979 till 1988 worked as researcher in the area of digital communications and encryption of TV signals, in the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of the National Centre for Scientific Research ¨Demokritos¨. In 1996 he joined the University of Crete as visiting Associated Professor and currently he is a Professor of telecommunications in the Technological Education Institute of Crete, Department of Applied Informatics and Multimedia Technology. His research interests are in the areas of Spread Spectrum Communications, Wireless Broadband Networks, Medical Informatics, Telemedicine, Modulation Techniques and Encryption of Digital Signals. Prof. Zacharopoulos has more than 40 publications in international journals, conference and workshop proceedings in the area of telecommunications and distance learning. He participated in a number EU-funded research programmes such as ΑΤΗΕΝΑ (Digital Switchover: Developing Infrastructures for Broadband Access, FP6-507312), ESPRIT (N0.2198), LINGUA (No.93-03: 0989/F-VB), as well as in a number of national research projects. Dr. Zacharopoulos is a member of the IEEE and the Greek Physical Society.
